I wrote a little book over the last 2 weeks. I wrote it in a hasty fashion. It ended up being a little over 300 pages.
I wrote the entire book with the “B” key missing from my keyboard. I don’t recommend that you write your book sans “B” key, but it is possible.
I called the book “The Glorious Defeat” and I used a self-publishing company to publish it. I’m patiently awaiting the first copy. The book consists of an overview of my conversion to the Catholic Church, an Apologetics section where I defend the teachings of the Church from Sacred Scripture, tons of quotes from the Early Church Fathers, and it ends with some Chesterton.
I’m already unhappy with it for a few reasons.
1. Hasty is OK if you’re GK Chesterton, not if you’re me.
2. I wanted to say much more than I did.
3. I’m probably not going to be satisfied with the final layout.
But, I published it anyway. I figured I’d hold the book in my hands, read it a few times, and then rewrite it. I’m not sure if that’s the logical thing to do, but that’s how I decided to do it.
The book came about when I started writing letters to my family members explaining why I became a Catholic. The letters were long and heavy in content. I finally decided that a book was more appropriate and easier to read than twenty letters of multiple pages.
My intent was to be as brief as possible, but I now think that editing the material to be brief is doing myself, and the reader, a disservice.
So once I get the book in my hands, I intend to do a major overhaul. Once I’m finished I’ll let you know more about it and where you can pick up a copy.
